Domaine Robert Arnoux Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 2005 is a 1er Cru Burgundy Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits. The domaine is managed by Pascal Lachaux. Organic and biodynamic farming practices are applied in the vineyards. In the cellar, typically Pascal prefers wholly destemmed grapes. Maturation of the domaine`s 1er Cru wines is in up to 60% new oak. The climat of Les Suchots is the largest in the appellation and separates the Grands Crus of Echézeaux and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. It is considered by many aficionados to be a `superior` 1er Cru. "Opening in the glass with a rich bouquet of grilled meats, ripe berry fruit, cassis, rich soil tones and spice, framed by a touch of new oak, the 2005 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with an ample core of fruit, melting tannins and ripe acids, concluding with a long, vanillin-inflected finish." Wine Advocate, 2020. NB. in 2008 this domaine changed its name to Arnoux-Lachaux.

Bright ruby-red. Pure, discreet aromas of black raspberry, spices, minerals and coffee; Lachaux says this is closed today but I find its subtle perfume utterly seductive. Wonderfully sweet and dense, with a seamless texture and no impression of weight. Extraordinarily sappy and aromatic for the vintage. The building, expanding finish features substantial sweet tannins and a dusty, tactile impression of extract-not to mention outstanding aromatic persistence.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2008
