Domaine Prieuré-Roch’s 2011 Les Suchots is a Premier Cru Burgundy red wine from the Vosne-Romanée appellation. This vintage reflects the late Henry-Frédéric Roch’s radical approach, utilising 100% whole bunches and no added sulphur. Despite the challenging 2011 season, the wine is incredibly fragrant with notes of wilted rose, stemmy spice and forest floor. The palate is light and ethereal, trading traditional density for a translucent, savoury character. It possesses a wild, slightly feral edge that is typical of the domaine’s natural style. The tannins are supple and fine, leading to a long finish marked by a distinct herbal freshness and salty mineral notes.

Prieure Roch

A Burgundian Titan

Founded in 1988 by Henri-Frédéric Roch, whose family are part-owners of the famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Prieure Roch produce wine from vineyard parcels in communes as diverse as Ladoix, Chambertin, Vosne Romanée and Savigny Les Beune. Farming of the vineyards is done to organic standards, veering towards full biodynamics in some instances and cellar techniques are strictly traditional - vinified in large wooden vats, manual punching down and without the use of sulphur.

Wines are kept in barrel for 12-24 months before bottling, although some experiments with extended ageing have taken place - most notably in 2002. These are elegant wines with the ripeness and poise that one would expect from a family that also produce arguable some of the world's great Pinot Noir.
