Méo Camuzet Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 2021 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of Les Chaumes in the Vosne-Romanée appellation of the Côte de Nuits. Founded at the turn of the 20th century, Méo-Camuzet produces some of the most sough-after wines from the Côte d`Or. The domaine boasts 14 hectares of land in some of the most prestigious appellations and crus in Burgundy. Since 1989, the estate has been overseen by Jean-Nicolas Méo, who also looks after Nicolas-Jay estate in Oregon`s Willamette Valley. "The Vosne Les Chaumes from Méo opens a bit slowly, but eventually it shows a lovely, expressive blackberry fruit with mineral and floral notes. The texture is substantial—firm and tannic with fresh acidity and a lengthy finish. The grapes come from two parcels that total just over two hectares, located just below Malconsorts. The vines are very mature and produce small clusters of concentrated, tannic fruit that Méo is not afraid to punch down and age with 50% new casks in order to deliver this muscular, dense wine." The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has quite a perfumed bouquet, perhaps the most floral of this first flight, with hints of violet infusing the dark berry fruit. There is a little oak to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, silky smooth and harmonious, although it just lacks a little density and grip on the finish. But what you might call a "useful" Vosne-Romanée. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin8th October 2025
