Domaine Leroy was formed in 1988 when the legendary Lalou Bize-Leroy acquired the estate of Charles Noëllat in Vosne-Romanée and subsequently Philippe-Rémy’s property in Gevrey-Chambertin. After continuous expansion, Domaine Leroy today consists of approximately 23 hectares, including impressive vineyard holdings in nine Grands Crus and eight Premier Crus. This release comes from the premier cru Les Beaux Monts, which is located north of Richebourg and Aux Brûlées. This is the largest holding owned by Lalou Bize-Leroy with 2.61 hectares of vines. The 1989 vintage is drinking superbly now.

Domaine Leroy’s 1989 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts was incredibly enjoyable. Still youthful and vibrant, it was full of fruit, with just the barest suggestions of more advanced notes.Antonio Galloni1st March 2007

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
