Domaine Bizot Vosne-Romanée 1999 is a mature village Burgundy Pinot Noir from the hallowed commune of Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits. A professor of viticulture and oenology in Beaune, Jean-Yves Bizot works with the most exacting standards both in the vineyard and the cellar. Planted with a large proportion of old vines, his vineyard holdings are farmed organically. He ferments his Pinot Noirs with whole clusters, eschewing the use of sulphur during vinification and élevage. Bizot`s Pinot Noirs require considerable maturation time before they reach their peak of expression - from his Grand Cru Échézeaux to his village-level wines. His Vosne-Romanée is a blend of four different plots within the village. Les Communes, Les Jardins, Les Colombières, and Les Saules.

Vinous
Dark red-ruby. Tangy aromas of blackcurrant, bitter chocolate and exotic oak. Creamy, sweet and nicely concentrated, with spicy, floral flavors of dark berries and Valrhona chocolate. Boasts good power and length for village wine. Seems less jazzed up and dried by its oak element than the old-vines bottling, but still tightens up on the back end.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2002
