Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling GG 2021 from Von Buhl is a dry white from one of the most prestigious Gorsses Gewächs vineyard sites in the Pfalz. Sourced from a vineyard defined by its unique composition of basalt, limestone and red sandstone, the wine reflects a profound mineral intensity. The 2021 vintage was a cooler year, yielding fruit with crystalline purity and a sharp acidic spine. It offers a profile of lime zest, white peach, crushed stones and a hint of wild herbs. Following fermentation in traditional oak stückfass, the palate is dense and vertical with immense structural focus. It possesses a persistent and saline finish that highlights the estate’s move towards a high-precision, bone-dry style.

The 2021 Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling GG opens with a deep, intense and complex nose of ripe and concentrated fruits intertwined with iodine terroir notes. Full-bodied, vital and fresh on the palate, this is an elegant, dense, tight, grippy and finely phenolic Riesling with well-balanced power, muscles and good drive. There are lovely citrus bitters on the finish that is already stimulating but always rich and powerful. This is another wine to age for at least 4 or 5 years. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2024.

The 2021 Riesling Forster Jesuitengarten Grosses Gewächs has hints of Mirabelle skin and pear peel on the nose that calm into gentler apricot flesh. The palate is rounder with white currant, but freshness is still the central axis around which everything revolves. A lovely stoniness aligns alongside the freshness, surrounded by hints of stone fruit but always returning to citrus. The bright and vivid 2021 shows a touch of limestone depth.
