The Von Buhl Forster Jesuitengarten GG 2016 reveals a complex profile, characterized by its precise minerality and lively acidity. Aromas of ripe stone fruits such as peach and apricot intertwine with floral notes and hints of herbal undertones. On the palate, the wine showcases a firm structure, balanced by a refreshing acidity that enhances its lengthy finish.

This wine hails from the renowned Forster Jesuitengarten vineyard, known for its unique terroir that combines slate soils with a south-facing slope, allowing optimal sun exposure. As a Grosses Gewächs (GG), it represents a dry wine from a top vineyard site in the Pfalz region, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship of the Von Buhl winery, which dates back to 1842.

A sweet seductive fragrance, aromas of citrus fruit and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, a juicy orange flavour and rich texture take advantage of restrained acidity to provide a truly generous mouthfeel. As a result, the Jesuitengarten probably tastes a little sweeter than it really is in terms of residual sugar. (MS) Michael Schmidt27th August 2018
Vinous
High-toned aromas of almond extract, herbal essences, quince and mirabelle in fresh and distilled form prepare the ground for a creamy, subtly oily, expansive yet in no way heavy midpalate memorably full of fruit and intensely redolent of cooling green herbs. The prodigious finish, while preserving all of the aforementioned richness, introduces brightly juicy fresh lime and conveys an unexpected sense of lift for a wine of at least 13% alcohol. Stony underpinnings serve to set off its striking purity and generosity of fruit without engendering any sense of austerity. This beauty could serve as Exhibit A in the case for complexity in “Grand Cru” dry Riesling being entirely compatible with irresistible drinkability (Trinkfluss). I last tasted it from its relatively new Austrian oak cask shortly before an August 2017 bottling and can wholeheartedly agree with Kaufmann’s characterization of it as “super-elegant.”David Schildknecht1st June 2018
