Volnay Les Chevrets Henri Boillot 2023 is a Premier Cru red Burgundy from a site located just below Volnay Caillerets, featuring deeper soils that yield a rounder and more fruit-forward wine. The 2023 release displays a sumptuous profile of crushed raspberry, violet and subtle oak spice. The palate is supple and broad, offering a generous core of fruit that is balanced by fine-grained tannins. While approachable in its youth due to the vintage`s ripeness, the wine possesses the necessary structural integrity for medium-term ageing.
Vinous
The 2023 Volnay Les Chevrets 1er Cru is a plump, juicy wine. Blue/purplish fruit, spice, new leather, licorice and lavender are all dialed up. This is one of the more immediate Volnays in the range. What it slightly lacks in complexity, it more than makes up in its alluring embrace.Antonio Galloni1st February 2025

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
