Volnay Les Caillerets Henri Boillot 2023 is a Premier Cru red Burgundy sourced from one of the most prestigious climats in the Volnay appellation. The 2023 vintage combines concentration with aromatic purity. The wine is distinguished by an intense stony minerality and tannins of great distinction. Despite its youth, the depth of the terroir is expressed through a saline and persistent finish. It is a serious wine for the cellar that will gain complexity and a more supple texture over the coming decade.
Vinous
The 2023 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru is a heady, explosive wine. Ripe dark red fruit, blood orange, cinnamon, kirsch and rose petal make a strong opening impression. This exuberant yet mid-weight Volnay impresses with its exotic beauty. The aromatics alone are beguiling. Antonio Galloni1st February 2025

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
