Domaine Henri Boillot is both a wine estate and a négociant based in Meursault. The Domaine was established by Henri Boillot in 2005, although the Boillot family has a long history in winemaking that stretches back several generations. This cuvée comes from the Volnay Premier Cru ‘Les Caillerets’, where Henri Boillot owns a 0.72-hectare plot. The vineyard is beautifully exposed to the south and east, with a mix of marl and limestone soil.

The 2021 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets reveals aromas of cherries, plums and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny palate that concludes with a slightly firm, herbal finish. Perhaps this cuvée was having an off day when I tasted it, as it`s normally a highlight. - William Kelley
Vinous
The 2021 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru offers notable depth to play off its mid-weight personality. Crushed red berry fruit, blueberry, spice, lavender and dried herbs build nicely in the glass. The Caillerets is a bit somber, but it is also exquisite. There’s a lot of depth and dimension there. This will be a lot of fun to follow. - Antonio Galloni - Neil Martin - The 2021 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru offers notable depth to play off its mid-weight personality. Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
