The Volnay Clos des Chênes Michel Lafarge 2015 is a red Burgundy made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, sourced from the renowned Clos des Chênes vineyard. Lafarge has been a significant figure in Burgundy, transitioning the domaine to organic and biodynamic methods, emphasising environmental stewardship. The 2015 vintage is noted for its ripe, concentrated nature, resulting in wines that reveal an intricate balance of fruit and structure. Expect aromas of dark cherries, subtle herbal notes, and a pronounced mineral character, all culminating in a persistent finish. This wine reflects the traditional style that Lafarge is known for.

Tasted blind, the 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes is utterly superb, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of raw cocoa, rose petal, orange rind and red berries that`s already very nuanced. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional and incredibly deep, with supple, satiny tannins, juicy acids and considerable concentration. Tasted among its peers, this Clos des Chênes is in a different class and confirms its status as one of a small handful of red wines of the vintage in the Côte de Beaune. It`s a profound Volnay that will be incredibly long-lived. - William Kelley

The 2015 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, brown spices and a touch of leather. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, a little rustic in style and quite irony, with a spicy, structured finish. The tannins feel particularly bold here.
