(recently racked): Good deep red. Aromas of redcurrant, black cherry, licorice, minerals and bitter chocolate. Juicy and vibrant but a bit angular and tough owing to the recent racking and sulfiting. Very pure wine with a rather delicate structure. More saline and less fruity than the premier cru. The crop level here was just 22 hectoliters per hectare due to the very small grapes, said d'Angerville.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2012

The 2010 Volnay Clos des Angles is a beautifully precise wine that blossoms in all directions with endless dimensions of flavor. Black cherries, plums, mint and licorice meld together gracefully in this wonderfully layered, expressive Volnay. A long, pure finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.
The 2010s from Marquis d’Angerville are stellar. They are the product of a year that saw yields lowered by 40-50% on average. It was quite a shock to see the domain’s cellars with so few barrels in them. As always, the wines were made with fully de-stemmed fruit. I will report on the 2009s in the April issue.
