Vilmart Coeur de Cuvée 2002 is a mature-vintage Champagne produced by Maison Vilmart in Rilly-la-Montagne, France. Vilmart is a grower champagne producer from Rilly-la-Montagne in the Montagne de Reims subregion of Champagne. Vilmart is known for its high-quality champagnes, which are made from grapes grown in their own vineyards. The Coeur de Cuvée is Vilmart`s flagship champagne and is made from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes. The wine is aged for a minimum of 10 years before being released. "Aromatic notes of pain d`épices wind through this harmonious Champagne, blending with notes of patisserie pear, coconut, quince paste and candied orange peel. The flavour profile threads through the precise, lacy texture, and the wine is enlivened by vibrant acidity that leaves a mouthwatering impression on the finish." Wine Spectator, 2011

The 2002 Brut Coeur de Cuvée is a totally hedonistic Champagne. It was picked at 11.2% potential alcohol, where many growers harvest today, but unprecedented twenty years ago. Layers of apricot jam, tangerine oil, spice, vanillin and passion fruit saturate the palate. Still vibrant and full of energy, the 2002 shows no signs of fading. I loved the 2002 when it was first released and love it today. It is one of the all-time greats at Vilmart. Antonio Galloni1st May 2023

Aromas of brioche, vanilla pod, candied peel, toasted nuts and dried fruits introduce the 2002 Brut Coeur de Cuvée, a broad, full-bodied and vinous wine with a satiny and textural attack, a deep and concentrated core, ripe acids and a gently wood-inflected finish. Fully mature and wide open, now is a great time to open bottles. Robust and muscular, I suspect the more recent vintages will prove longer-lived than this 2002 seems likely to do.
