Maison Thiriet is a relatively new producer, only founded in 2016. Based in Comblanchien – a commune just to the south of Nuits-Saint-Georges – it is the brainchild of Matt Chittick and Camille Thiriet who met each other while working for Domaine de Bellene. ‘Champs Cervin’ is made from organic Chardonnay grapes, sourced from a plot located in the commune of Tharoiseau, opposite Vézelay. Expect pronounced floral notes at first, complemented by hints of pears, apricots and a charming acidity.

This has its own AOC for the first time in this vintage. One barrel out of five is new. A little hill, south facing, ‘like a baby Corton’, says Thiriet. Vines 30 years old. Big rocks. Organic.Difficult to describe the aroma, lightly spicy and mineral but also a touch cedary and citrusy. A little bit mealy/leesy. Lots of complex flavours. Really creamy in the mouth, almost hiding the freshness even though it is fresh. Peachy rounded texture with herby citrus flavour. Elegant and gentle but persistent. (JH)
