Maison Thiriet is a relatively new producer, only founded in 2016. Based in Comblanchien – a commune just to the south of Nuits-Saint-Georges – it is the brainchild of Matt Chittick and Camille Thiriet who met each other while working for Domaine de Bellene. ‘Champs Cervin’ is made from organic Chardonnay grapes, sourced from a plot located in the commune of Tharoiseau, opposite Vézelay. Expect pronounced floral notes at first, complemented by hints of pears, apricots and a charming acidity.

This has its own AOC for the first time in this vintage. One barrel out of five is new. A little hill, south facing, ‘like a baby Corton’, says Thiriet. Vines 30 years old. Big rocks. Organic.Difficult to describe the aroma, lightly spicy and mineral but also a touch cedary and citrusy. A little bit mealy/leesy. Lots of complex flavours. Really creamy in the mouth, almost hiding the freshness even though it is fresh. Peachy rounded texture with herby citrus flavour. Elegant and gentle but persistent.
