Pintia 2015 is a 100% Toro Tempranillo from the Castilla y León region of Spain, presented in a magnum format. This estate, part of the Vega Sicilia family, focuses on a style that balances the raw power of Toro with a refined, architectural structure. The 2015 vintage yielded fruit of exceptional concentration and ripeness, which the magnum format helps to evolve with greater grace. The bouquet is deep and expressive, showing notes of blackberries, dark chocolate, liquorice and toasted oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and intense, with a firm tannic core and a persistent acidity that keeps the dark fruit vibrant. It is a structured red with a long, spicy finish.

Deep, glistening ruby. Expansive cherry, cassis, potpourri, exotic spice and cracked pepper scents on the intensely perfumed nose; subtle licorice, tobacco and vanilla qualities add complexity. Deep, sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering intense, spice- and smoke-tinged red and dark berry compote, violet pastille and cola flavors that become livelier with air. The floral quality gains strength on the strikingly long finish, which leaves smoke and mineral notes behind. Josh Raynolds1st February 2021

Spain's 'First Growth'

Located in Ribera del Duero, Vega Sicilia was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves, who established the vineyards with cuttings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec taken from the vineyards of Bordeaux. The estate planted Tempranillo alongside these Bordelais varietals, which now makes up the majority of the modern Vega Sicilia blend.

The flagship wines are Unico and Unico Reserva Especial - the former is aged for 10 years before release while the latter is a blend of only the finest vintages. Valbuena 5 is the estate's 'entry level' wine, a five year aged Tempranillo. Alongside Vega Sicilia, the same team also manage Bodegas Alion in Ribera del Duero and Bodegas Pintia in Toro.
