A 2006 red wine from the Toro region of Spain, this vintage of Pintia is crafted exclusively from Tinta de Toro grapes, known for their bold characteristics. The fruit is sourced from vineyards featuring pebbly soils that contribute to the wine`s structure and complexity. With an alcohol content of 15%, Pintia undergoes a 12-month maturation in new oak, comprising 70% French and 30% American barrels, which helps integrate the rich fruit profile with subtle woody nuances. Aromatic notes include blackberries, liquorice, and roasted coffee beans, supported by a robust tannic backbone. Pintia exemplifies Vega Sicilia’s initiative to meld the region’s intensity with the refinement found in their traditional Valbuena and Unico lines.
93 Vinous
(100% tinta de toro raised in all new oak, 70% French and 30% American) Deep ruby with a bright rim. Sexy, expressive aromas of red and dark berries, incense, Asian spices and cola. The red berry quality dominates the palate, gaining complexity from notes of clove, rose pastille and sassafras and taking on a building spiciness on the finish. The tannins in this wine seem already absorbed.
16.5 Jancis Robinson
Owned by Vega Sicilia.Meat, smoke, black fruit – quite subtle yet with great concentration in the nose. Textured and lengthy palate with a heady sense of power and an aromatic quality that seems to have plenty more expressiveness to come yet. Dried herbs on the finish.  (RH)

Spain's 'First Growth'

Located in Ribera del Duero, Vega Sicilia was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves, who established the vineyards with cuttings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec taken from the vineyards of Bordeaux. The estate planted Tempranillo alongside these Bordelais varietals, which now makes up the majority of the modern Vega Sicilia blend.

The flagship wines are Unico and Unico Reserva Especial - the former is aged for 10 years before release while the latter is a blend of only the finest vintages. Valbuena 5 is the estate's 'entry level' wine, a five year aged Tempranillo. Alongside Vega Sicilia, the same team also manage Bodegas Alion in Ribera del Duero and Bodegas Pintia in Toro.
