Dal Forno Romano, founded in 1983 in the Val D`Illasi, has become synonymous with intensity and elegance in Valpolicella. The estate’s focus on quality begins with careful selection of fruit from their low-yielding vineyards, where vines are managed with utmost attention to detail. Dal Forno Romano`s 2006 Valpolicella Superiore exemplifies the estate`s commitment to producing wines of exceptional depth and complexity. Crafted from partially dried grapes, this wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by maturation in oak barrels. The result is a deep, rich profile with firm yet well-integrated tannins. Aromas of ripe black cherries, plums, and hints of sweet spices lead to a palate that is both powerful and elegant. The finish is long and harmonious, reflecting the meticulous winemaking practices of Dal Forno Romano.

The 2006 Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a an attractive wine to drink now and over the next few years, as the flavors offer gorgeous complexity and nuance. Cedar, tobacco, smoke, worn-in leather and dried cherries are all laced together in the glass in a powerful Valpolicella loaded with class and personality. Firm tannins convey a decidedly old-school sense of structure.Antonio Galloni1st July 2015

Quintarelli Giuseppe

The Godfather of Veneto

The Quintarelli estate in the northern Veronese village of Negrar dates back to 1924 and was founded by Bepe’s father, Silvio. Bepe himself took over in the 1950s, orchestrating a quality revolution through his meticulous work in the vineyard and his uncompromising practices in the cellar. The result was wines of such hedonistic deliciousness that they became some of the most sought-after in Italy; those made before Bepe’s death in 2012 especially so.

At the still family-run estate, Bepe’s legacy continues through his daughter, Fiorenza, along with her husband, Giampaolo, and their children. The core range of wines are those made in the appassimiento style (ie, with partially sun-dried grapes): the Valpolicella Superiore, Amarone, Rosso del Bepi (essentially an Amarone, but released instead of the Amarone in ‘lesser’ vintages) and Recioto. The Amarone, only released in exceptional years, is matured for fully seven years in old Slavonian oak before release. An Amarone Riserva sees 10 years.
