Château Valandraud was established in 1991 by wine lovers Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud and is situated in Saint-Émilion. The 2018 vintage is an elegant, Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend and has met with great critical acclaim. In the words of James Suckling, "This is really rich and intense with beautiful blackberry, violet and blueberry aromas that follow through to a full-bodied palate with extremely polished tannins that caress your palate. Love the texture and purity to the wine. Fantastic. Try after 2025." Sold in magnificent large format.
95 Vinous
The 2018 Valandraud packs a punch on the nose, delivering a complex array of scents: blackberry, raspberry, freshly picked violets and a touch of mint. The oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins and commingled blue and blackberry fruit. Sweet and candied toward the finish, which has an almost Burgundian texture. Somehow quite Asian in style, with touches of hoisin on the aftertaste, this is a very classy and completely delicious Valandraud. Neal Martin21st March 2021
95 The Wine Independent
The 2018 Valandraud has a deep garnet purple color. It opens with scents of tar and fertile loam, over a core of stewed cherries and plum preserves, plus waft of tobacco and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is firm and grainy with taut, muscular fruit and a savory finish. Lisa Perrotti-Brown9th February 2023
