Valandraud 2005 is a Right Bank Bordeaux blend predominantly featuring Merlot, crafted at the Valandraud estate in Saint-Émilion. This vintage showcases concentrated dark fruit flavours alongside notes of cocoa and savoury spices. The tannins are substantial, contributing to a robust mouthfeel, while a precise acidity balances the profile. Valandraud is known for its role in the garagiste movement, which prioritised small-scale production and innovative techniques.
100 Vinous
The 2005 Valandraud is off the charts. Easily one of the wines of the vintage, the 2005 Valandraud possesses tremendous richness from start to finish. Moreover, it has aged exquisitely. Inky red fruit, iron, smoke, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and blood orange infuse the 2005 with striking layers of nuance to play off all that unctuous fruit. This full-throttle Saint-Émilion is a prodigious effort from Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud. Antonio Galloni1st April 2021
18.5 Jancis Robinson
Exceptionally deep crimson. Great intensity and energy. 70 per cent Merlot, 25 per cent Cabernet Franc, 2.5 per cent Malbec, 2.5 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon. Very deep and bright and opulent. Very rich and broad and easy and lively. Complete and long, though dry on the finish. Very bright fruit and full of vitality – not overripe or overdone. (JR)
