Situated along Napa Valley’s Oakville bench, the Ulysses vineyard was once part of the famed Charles Hopper ranch and was acquired by Christian Moueix in 2008. From the sensational 2015 vintage, this is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon with 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. It is a wonderfully opulent and rich, with sumptuous layers of ripe black fruits, spring flowers, dried herbs and tobacco. Perhaps a little young for consumption, this has a long and distinguished future ahead of it.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful, deep wine. Dark-toned fruit, leather, incense, tobacco, dried herbs and graphite are boldly sketched. Broad swaths of tannin envelop the palate, providing an ample frame as the 2015 gradually begins to open with air. This has aged quite well. In fact, it still retains considerable textural intensity and concentration. Readers can look forward to another decade of exceptional drinking. Antonio Galloni6th November 2025
95 Jancis Robinson
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon remains relatively primary, with cedar and vanilla notes atop cherry and cassis. Medium to full-bodied, it's smooth, rich and supple, concentrated but finessed, finishing long and silky, adding touches of dark chocolate, mocha and licorice. This looks capable of aging for at least another 20 years, but it's far from being inaccessible now.Joe Czerwinski31st May 2022

The tannins retain some angularity even at the decade-plus mark, the body is layered with chocolate, cocoa bean, aniseed and fennel. Delicious, plenty of forward motion but less depth of layers than the other two vintages. This feels like a bridge between the early years of this wine, and the stunning vibrancy of today. The vines were just six years old on average at the time, a year with a cool rainy start then a very hot finish. Tod Mostero winemaker.Jane Anson17th March 2026

A Single, Exceptional Vineyard

Ulysses vineyard was acquired in 2008 by Christian Moueix. Situated along Napa Valley’s Oakville bench and extending over an alluvial fan at the foot of the Mayacamas Range, the site was once part of the famed Charles Hopper ranch and it is exceptional for winegrowing. The soil is composed of deep, gravelly, clay loam and is particularly well-suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winemaking approach is minimalist, with attentive observation and restrained intervention. Ulysses is around 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend and the vineyard was certified organic in 2021. While Ulysses is very much separate wine with its own identity, it is produced and matured at the Moueix family's Dominus winery in Yountville.
