Situated along Napa Valley’s Oakville bench, the Ulysses vineyard was once part of the famed Charles Hopper ranch and was acquired by Christian Moueix in 2008. 2012 was the inaugural vintage and was composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon with lesser parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is rich, ripe and layered with notes of red cherry, wild flowers, spices and savoury herbs. Just 800 cases were produced.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is the first commercial release from Christian Moueix's Oakville property. Sensual and alluring, yet with striking depth, the 2012 is full of sweet red cherry, raspberry jam, wild flowers, all pushed forward in a sexy, layered Cabernet Sauvignon that delivers terrific depth for a wine from this generally uneven vintage. Sweet floral and spiced notes add lift on the finish. I imagine the 2012 will reward readers with a good two decades of fine drinking.Antonio Galloni1st February 2016

The 2012 Ulysses (800 cases) is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest other Bordeaux varietals. A structured, dense purple wine that displays plenty of cedar wood, crème de cassis, licorice and graphite, the wine is full-bodied, rich, backward and dense, but beautifully pure fruit and an almost Pontet-Canet-like purity and density are hallmarks of this brilliant wine. Forget it for 4-5 years and drink it over the following 20-25.Robert Parker31st December 2015

A Single, Exceptional Vineyard

Ulysses vineyard was acquired in 2008 by Christian Moueix. Situated along Napa Valley’s Oakville bench and extending over an alluvial fan at the foot of the Mayacamas Range, the site was once part of the famed Charles Hopper ranch and it is exceptional for winegrowing. The soil is composed of deep, gravelly, clay loam and is particularly well-suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winemaking approach is minimalist, with attentive observation and restrained intervention. Ulysses is around 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend and the vineyard was certified organic in 2021. While Ulysses is very much separate wine with its own identity, it is produced and matured at the Moueix family's Dominus winery in Yountville.
