The Tyler Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017 is a red wine from the Sta. Rita Hills AVA in Santa Barbara County, crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. This wine originates from the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, notable for its pioneering status in California’s Pinot Noir production since 1971. Winemaker Justin Willett employs methods that emphasise balance and structural integrity, often using whole clusters and minimal new oak. The 2017 vintage was marked by a heat spike followed by cooler weather, resulting in wines with concentration and freshness. Palate notes may include cherry, raspberry, and earthiness, supported by lively acidity.

The 2017 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is another pretty, gracious wine in this range. Crushed flowers, dried cherry, chalk, mint, spice, cedar and sweet tobacco are all beautifully lifted in this lithe, sensual Pinot Noir from Tyler. The 2017 is bright and energetic, with lovely saline underpinnings that give energy, and an attractive whole cluster flourish on the close. This is an especially earthy, savory style, with more prominent stem character than is found in most of the other Pinots in this lineup.Antonio Galloni1st September 2019
