Château Trotte Vieille is an historical wine estate in Saint-Émilion that has been owned by the Borie-Manoux négociant business since 1949. In 1955 it was rated as Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the official classification of Saint-Émilion wines, a status the Château managed to retain in 2022. This release is the 2005 vintage of its flagship wine, a blend of 53% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. The days were warmer than average in 2005 but the nights far cooler, allowing the grapes to mature slowly. An excellent vintage to sip now.

Good ruby-red. Sexy, spicy, slightly high-toned aromas of currant and dark chocolate. Sweet, lush and suave, offering excellent mouth coverage and conveying a strong impression of extract. Finishes impressively long, with firm tannins buried in fruit.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2008

Dark purple. Fruit gum simple aromas. Sweet and worked and just lacking a bit of refreshment value. Very drying finish. Another St-Émilion that has, unfortunately, been over-extracted. Extremely drying finish that swamps the fruit. Nothing on the finish. (JR)
