Château Trotte Vieille is an historical wine estate in Saint-Émilion that has been owned by the Borie-Manoux négociant business since 1949. In 1955 it was rated as Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the official classification of Saint-Émilion wines, a status the Château retained in 2022.
The 2001 is a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc, The wine was aged new French oak barrels for 18-24 months. Notes of dark fruits, including ripe black cherries and blackcurrants. Earthy undertones of cedar and graphite complement the profile, while the tannins offer structure and depth.

The terrific 2001 appears to be slightly superior to the potentially outstanding 2000. A deep plum/ruby color is accompanied by a delectable bouquet of melted licorice, black currants, smoke, and a notion of chocolate. This expressive, medium-bodied effort boasts sweet tannin, luscious fruit, and a nicely textured finish. Moreover, this up and coming St.-Emilion still sells for a reasonable price. In an effort to improve the quality at this estate, proprietor Philippe Casteja has instituted a more severe selection process in the vineyard as well as the cellars. Anticipated maturity. 2006-2014. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Deep red. Currant, raspberry, iron, leather and smoked meat on the aromatic nose. Supple and distinctly dry, with slightly autumnal flavors of redcurrant and leather. Finishes with fairly soft tannins.
