Château Trotanoy 2014 is a distinguished red wine from the Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux`s Right Bank, owned by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, a notable name in the region`s wine production. This vintage is primarily composed of Merlot, supplemented by Cabernet Franc, reflecting the estate`s clay and gravel soils. The growing season was notably challenging, yet benefitted from favourable weather in late September and October. The wine displays a profile featuring dark fruit, including plum and blackberry, along with hints of earth and truffle. Renowned for its structure, the palate reveals a complex interplay of fruit and mineral nuances.

The 2014 Trotanoy had (que surprise!) closed down on the nose compared to its JP Moueix stablemates. A few swirls of the glass and it reveals very precise, mineral-soaked black fruit laced with black truffle and subtle sous-bois aromas. It soon gathers momentum and the aromas were gaining more and more intensity after five minutes. The palate is outstanding. There is brilliant structure here, immense and almost staggering purity, incredible focus and tension with an electrifying spiciness on the finish. Best Pomerol of the vintage? The only thing wrong with that last sentence is the question mark at the end. - Neal Martin

The 2014 Trotanoy has a more complex bouquet than the 2014 Gazin, with more Pomerol DNA in the mix, iron-tinged red berry fruit, black truffle and cedar. Fine delineation and quintessentially Pomerol. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and harmonious, soy-tinged black fruit with white pepper sprinkled over the finish. This has personality and class but needs time (comme d'habitude). One of the standouts in what is an inconsistent Pomerol vintage. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. Medium to deep garnet-brick in color, the 2014 Trotanoy opens with notions of dusty soil, leather, and underbrush followed by a core of dried plums and raspberry preserves. World Class Pomerol
One of Pomerol's leading estates, Trotanoy was purchased by the Mouiex family in the mid-1950s. Farming around eight hectares of vines around a kilometre away from Petrus, the Trotanoy plantings are 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on clay and gravel soils. The grapes are hand-harvested before being pressed and fermented in concrete vats. Maturation takes place in oak barriques, around 75% of which are new, for 18 months before being bottled unfiltered.
The wine's bold, concentrated style is a favourite with critics and connoisseurs alike with The Wine Advocate's Robert Parker dubbing Trotanoy "one of my favourite estates".
