Trotanoy 2001 is a full-bodied, Merlot-based red wine from the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. One of Pomerol`s leading estates, Trotanoy was purchased by the Mouiex family in the mid-1950s. Farming around eight hectares of vines around a kilometre away from Petrus, the Trotanoy plantings are 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on clay and gravel soils. The wine`s bold, concentrated style is a favourite with critics and connoisseurs alike with The Wine Advocate`s Robert Parker dubbing Trotanoy "one of my favourite estates". On the 2001. "The 2001 Trotanoy is a vintage that I tasted regularly in its youth, but had not encountered for five years. It has a very appealing nose of loamy earth/mulch-infused tarry black fruit, touches of mint coming through with aeration. The medium-bodied palate delivers a mixture of red and black fruit, a liberal dash of cracked black pepper, and some clove and sea salt. Showing very good complexity, this is harmonious and focused, albeit just a little rustic toward the grippy finish. Thick, crimson. Quite etched and vivacious. Full. Hits the palate with quite a bit of glory, though great restraint, too. Ripe dark fruits. Dry finish and absolutely no concessions to modern mocha-scented style. (JR)

One of Pomerol's leading estates, Trotanoy was purchased by the Mouiex family in the mid-1950s. Farming around eight hectares of vines around a kilometre away from Petrus, the Trotanoy plantings are 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on clay and gravel soils. The grapes are hand-harvested before being pressed and fermented in concrete vats. Maturation takes place in oak barriques, around 75% of which are new, for 18 months before being bottled unfiltered.
