Trotanoy 1998 is a Merlot-dominant blend from the Pomerol region of Bordeaux. The wine exhibits notes of ripe blackberries, cocoa and hints of leather, evolving into an intricate profile of wet stone and underbrush with time. With a firm tannic structure and balanced acidity, it presents a compelling interplay of fruit and earthiness.

The 1998 Trotanoy displays a deep garnet-purple color. Wow. Tons of gregarious fruit springs from the glass—crème de cassis, blackberry pie, blueberry compote and mincemeat with suggestions of cigar box, chargrilled meat, incense, earth and dried cherries plus a touch of dried flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it coats the palate with bags of rich, plush textured fruit, offering layer upon layer of exotic spice and savory flavors, finishing epically long and layered. This is mind-blowingly delicious!Lisa Perrotti-Brown31st May 2018

The 1998 Trotanoy, poured from magnum, is ferociously backward on the nose. With black cherries, raspberry coulis, truffle and touches of iodine with aeration, this threatens to overwhelm the senses. The palate is a beast: huge concentration, uncompromising with massive weight; this is a Pomerol that says, "Bugger off and come back in a decade." Well, that's just what I would advise. World Class Pomerol

One of Pomerol's leading estates, Trotanoy was purchased by the Mouiex family in the mid-1950s. Farming around eight hectares of vines around a kilometre away from Petrus, the Trotanoy plantings are 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on clay and gravel soils. The grapes are hand-harvested before being pressed and fermented in concrete vats. Maturation takes place in oak barriques, around 75% of which are new, for 18 months before being bottled unfiltered.

The wine's bold, concentrated style is a favourite with critics and connoisseurs alike with The Wine Advocate's Robert Parker dubbing Trotanoy "one of my favourite estates".
