Château Troplong Mondot is amongst the finest producers in St-Émilion and earned the second-highest classification of Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) in 2006 after many years of consistently excellent releases. Though not a blockbuster year, 1994 signalled the end of a run of poor vintages in the early 90s and those on the earlier ripening Right Bank fared better, producing wines of both concentration and elegance. This is now fully mature and ready to drink.

Vinous
Very good ruby-red color. Spicy oak, black fruits, roasted coffee and almonds on the nose. Lush and dense, with a flavor of caramel. In comparison to the '95, this is a somewhat monolithic wine that could use more delineation. Tongue-coating tannins are ripe and soft. This seems almost too concentrated for its own good, while the '95 is more elegant if such an adjective can be applied to this style. Stephen Tanzer1st May 1996
