Owned and operated by the Dürrbach family since 1973, Domaine de Trévallon is situated in the Medieval town of Les Baux-de-Provence, 30km south of Avignon, and is one of the most revered producers in the region. Vincent and Catherine le Calvez, the winemakers behind Trevallon, have cultivated a reputation for their unorthodox methods.
The 2012 is a half Syrah, half Cabernet Sauvignon. The Domain’s red is famously long-lived and complex. Typically, the wine is fermented with whole bunches and matured for two years in used barrels and foudres before being bottled unfiltered. The high proportion of Cabernet in the blend dictates that the wine cannot be labelled with the name of the local appellation protegée, Les Baux de Provence, and must instead be labelled as Vin de Pay. Trevallon’s own website gives an ageing potential of I minimum of 25 years.
