Trevallon Red 1995 is a full-bodied, mature-vintage red blend produced by Domaine de Trevallon in the Provence region of southern France. Located in in the medieval town of Les Baux-de-Provence south of Avignon, Domaine de Trévallon was established by Eloi Dürrbach – the son of prominent artist and friend of Picasso Réné Dürrbach – in 1973 and gradually earned a reputation as a producer of some of the finest red wines in the Provence region. A half-half blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the domaine`s red is famously long-lived and complex. Typically, the wine is fermented with whole bunches and matured for two years in used barrels and foudres before being bottled unfiltered. The high proportion of Cabernet in the blend dictates that the wine cannot be labelled with the name of the local appellation protegée, Les Baux de Provence, and must instead be labelled as Vin de Pay. On the 1995. "Saturated ruby-red. Nose combines black raspberry preserves, dark chocolate, black pepper and game. Dense, very concentrated and very primary, but already shows lovely inner-mouth perfume. Still, a bit less expressive than the `94 was at the same stage. Dark berry flavour explodes on the tannic finish. This wine spine of acidity gives it great grip and aging potential. For the second consecutive year, this wine was bottled as VdP des Bouches du Rhone, rather than Les Baux de Provence." Vinous, 1998

Fine bright subtle mid ruby. Heady and bright. Rather refreshing. Lively and a little animal. A tad austere on the finish. (JR)
