Torbreck The Factor 2005 is a mature-vintage northern Rhône-style Syrah from the Torbreck Vintners winery in the Barossa Valley. The winery was founded by David Powell in 1994. The Factor is produced from own-rooted, dryfarmed, old-vine Shiraz and is matured in 30% new French barriques for 24 months. Famed for its longevity, this is one of the finest examples of full-blooded, complex Barossa Shiraz from one of the region`s most celebrated winemakers. "The 2005 The Factor is 100% Shiraz sourced from dry grown vines from six sub-regions of Barossa. It spent 24 months in 30% new French oak. Opaque purple-coloured, it delivers an expressive bouquet of pepper, smoke, espresso roast, blackberry, blueberry, and liquorice. Full-bodied and voluptuous on the palate, nuances of saddle leather and mineral emerge to complement the layers of spicy blue and black fruits. The wine is beautifully integrated with enough well-concealed tannin to keep this wine evolving for a decade. The pure finish lingers for 60+ seconds to complete the experience of a totally hedonistic turn-on." Wine Advocate, 2007

Old-vine Treasures of the Barossa Valley

Founded in 1994 by David Powell, Torbreck has quickly positioned itself as one of the greatest wineries in Australia. This has been partly due to its unwavering commitment to its core vision and not being influenced by trends and fashions. Focusing on Rhone varieties such as Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre planted in 1840, the fruit here is uniquely rich and concentrated. After manually harvesting, the grapes are fermented in either stainless steel or cement vats. After that, the young wine is transferred into French oak barriques for maturation- usually 20-24 months. The result is bold, flavourful and wines that reflect their origins. These wines maintain a style that is impressively consistent over the vintages, favouring richness but with structure and a distinctive core of energy.
