With loss, there can also be gains and such is the case with this remarkable malt whisky. Never before have we bottled a whisky that has lost so much of itself through its time in cask. Over fifty years of maturation in American oak, the casks blended to create this release have lost the majority of their contents to the angels, leaving a remarkable spirit in their wake. The Last Trace delivers wonderful contrasts of flavour that move between sweet coconut and earthier, damp notes. A complex, richly flavoursome, shapeshifting release delivering a nuanced character quite unlike anything we have seen before.

The nose opens with the enticing invitation of toasted coconut, evolving to a buttery, yet mentholic quality. From there, the aromas develop, offering plains of leather and parchment paper - a nod to time spent slumbering in cask. The rancio qualities continue on the palate, offering an antique character, before a creamy crescendo, offered hand in hand with a lasting tart tang.

Limited to 65 bottles.

Age, Provenance and Rarity

For almost one hundred years, generations of the Gordon family have carefully laid down stocks of whisky for special occasions and personal consumption. This rare collection has become known as House of Hazelwood, after the family’s Dufftown home – Hazelwood House.

Today, the collection has grown to become the greatest inventory of aged Scotch whisky held anywhere in the world. Spanning seven decades and every corner of Scotland. The House of Hazelwood range represents the first time bottlings from these casks have been made available to the public. Each whisky is as interesting as it is unique whether they are rare old blends which have been maturing for decades or casks from long-closed distilleries.
