Thamnus Pinot Noir 2023 is a cool-climate red wine from the Overberg region of South Africa crafted from vines planted on the shale and quartzite slopes of the Klein River Mountains. The winemaking here involves gentle handling and maturation in French oak to create a profile defined by wild strawberry, pomegranate and forest floor with a fine dusting of spice. On the palate the wine shows a lithe structure and silky tannins that lead into a mineral finish characteristic of the rocky Bokkeveld shale soils.

The 2023 Pinot Noir comes from three clones. Geyer has realised that whole bunch is "not his thing" as there is already backbone in the wine and he would rather extract structure from the skins. Matured in 35% new oak, it has a lifted nose with redcurrant and cranberry fruit, a little sous-bois in the background. The palate is well balanced with a lovely, silky mouthfeel. This is far superior Pinot to the '22 and it displays great precision on the finish. Definitely, this is worth seeking out. Neal Martin2nd October 2025
