This single malt was distilled at the Teaninich distillery in the Highlands in 1996 and was then bottled in 2009 at its natural cask strength of 55.3% ABV as part of `The Managers` Choice` series. This was a range of single cask whiskies selected by Diageo`s distillery managers to showcase the unique characteristics of their respective distilleries. On the nose, aromas of honey, vanilla and orchard fruits, along with a hint of spice and oak. The palate reveals a full-bodied and oily dram, with a creamy texture and a long, warming finish.

The Gentle Giant

Founded in 1817 and moth-balled twice between 1939-1945 and 1985-1991, Teaninich is a lesser known Highland distillery which is rarely seen bottled as an own-label edition. The distillery was established by Hugh Munro on the estate of the Teaninich castle, eventually being sold to his younger brother John in around 1830. The team run three wash and three spirit stills and operate the only hammer mill and mash filter in Scotland, with all other distilleries using a traditional mash tun for their fermentations. This unique approach allow Teaninich to produce a notably lighter, cleaner wort that translates directly into a more refined style of whisky.

Teaninch produce a lot of whisky - over 10 millions litres a year - with most going into famous blends like Johnnie Walker Red and VAT 69. Independent bottlings are the best way to enjoy Teaninich - single cask editions from the likes of Gordon and MacPhail, Duncan Taylor, That Boutique Whisky Co., and Carn Mor being a great place to start. The distillery was honoured with not one, but two entries in Diageo's acclaimed "Rare Malts" series, both distilled in 1973.
