The Tara Syrah 2020, emerging from the Atacama Desert’s Huasco Valley in Chile, showcases a distinctive terroir marked by salt-rich, limestone soils and arid climate conditions. Produced by Viña Ventisquero as part of the Tara project, this wine embodies a commitment to minimal intervention techniques. The 2020 vintage benefited from dry weather, leading to concentrated flavours. Expect a subtle complexity of dark fruit, black olive, and mineral notes, with medium body and poised acidity. Viña Ventisquero is notable for its innovative approach to remote viticulture, pushing boundaries in extreme growing regions.

The 2020 Red Wine 2 Syrah comes from vines planted in 2007 on the second terrace of the Huasco River in the Atacama Dessert, on limestone salty soils that give the wines a special sapidity. It fermented in open-top 3,000-liter tanks with native yeasts and matured with equal parts in untoasted oak foudres and concrete eggs for 20 months. It has 13.5% alcohol and notable freshness and acidity and is medium-bodied, with tension and firm tannins. I find great purity and a very clean varietal expression here. It`s an elegant and medium-bodied Syrah with the austerity and subtleness of the extreme place. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2022.

Dry, taut and silky, this delicate yet vibrant red glides across the palate with a light and persistent chalkiness—a delicious expression from Chile's sun-soaked northernmost region.
