The 2010 Château Talbot is a full-bodied expression of Saint-Julien, often cited as one of the best vintages from this Fourth Growth property in recent decades. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (around 62%) and Merlot, it displays an opaque plum/ruby colour and an intense aromatic profile of crème de cassis, liquorice, woodsmoke and a distinct graphite minerality. The palate is powerful and dense yet balanced, offering a savoury, expansive mouthfeel with layers of crunchy dark fruit and refined, chewy tannins that lead to a long, classic finish. Available here in double magnum.

Darker fruit than the Talbot 2009, and more closed in its architecture, showing that both of these wines really encapsulate the vintage character. Solid, muscular, impressive, well textured, with a slab of bitter chocolate cutting through the fruits on the finish.Jane Anson10th October 2024

The 2010 Talbot is much more backward on the nose compared to its peers, eventually revealing blackberry, briary and light floral scents, pretty but clearly requiring more bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite firm tannins. Cedar and graphite lend this a slight Pauillac-like personality, linear and correct with modest depth on the finish. Very fine. Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Talbot opens with maturing scents of fruitcake, Chinese five spice and cigar box plus hints of dried mint, pencil lead and chargrill. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is pleasantly spicy, with a light grip of chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savory. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown
