Talbot 2016 presents a Left Bank Bordeaux blend comprising predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Merlot and Petit Verdot. Situated in the Saint-Julien appellation, Talbot spans 105 hectares. The winery’s history dates back to the 15th century. This vintage exhibits a complex interplay of red and black fruits, with notable elegance on the palate. The wine matured for 18 months in oak barrels, contributing to its textured mouthfeel. It is recognised for its early accessibility, reflecting Talbot’s philosophy of crafting approachable yet profound wines.

The 2016 Talbot has an airy, well-defined bouquet of blackberry, cedar and light minty aromas, perhaps more Pauillac than Saint-Julien. The medium-bodied palate delivers gritty tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a graphite-infused finish. This is very fine for Talbot, a Saint-Julien hewn in a typically classic style. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. Neal Martin1st August 2020
