With a rich history dating back to the 15th century, Château Talbot is a well-known Fourth Growth situated in the Saint-Julien appellation, close to the Gironde Estuary. It is owned by members of the Cordier family, one of the most influential clans in Bordeaux. The property stretches over a 110-hectare single block vineyard, of which 102.5 hectares are dedicated to its Grand Vin. The 2010 vintage is a blend composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, from vines that are in average 50 years old. It’s a full-bodied wine, offering up notes of creme de cassis, liquorice, herbs and barbecue.

Darker fruit than the Talbot 2009, and more closed in its architecture, showing that both of these wines really encapsulate the vintage character. Solid, muscular, impressive, well textured, with a slab of bitter chocolate cutting through the fruits on the finish.Jane Anson10th October 2024

The 2010 Talbot is much more backward on the nose compared to its peers, eventually revealing blackberry, briary and light floral scents, pretty but clearly requiring more bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite firm tannins. Cedar and graphite lend this a slight Pauillac-like personality, linear and correct with modest depth on the finish. Very fine. Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Talbot opens with maturing scents of fruitcake, Chinese five spice and cigar box plus hints of dried mint, pencil lead and chargrill. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is pleasantly spicy, with a light grip of chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savory. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Unusual aroma, with a lack of freshness and something slightly feral in tone. Lacks purity. (RH)
