The 2006 Château Talbot is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The nose suggests aromas of dark berries, laurel, truffle, and cigar box. On the palate, dark berries, cocoa, laurel and coffee notes are supported by good acidity and gentle, rounded tannins. The wine has reached full maturity and is ready to be enjoyed now.

The 2006 Talbot offers this Saint-Julien’s trademark cedar and tobacco scents and as I remarked previously, there is a scent of walking around a stately home. The palate is medium-bodied with decent weight, rather austere in style and needing more flesh to come through on the finish. Respectable given the vintage but not the most exciting Talbot that you will ever taste. Tasted at a private lunch in London. Neal Martin1st October 2019

Dark crimson. Tobacco leaf notes on the nose – rather drying tannins on the finish. A little bit pinched. Far from opulent! (JR)

A Venerable Saint Julien Estate

The vineyards at Château Talbot cover around 110 hectares and are planted with 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot. The soils are composed of deep gravel overlying clay subsoil, which gives the wines a distinct minerality and complexity. The vineyard is managed sustainably, with a focus on preserving the natural environment and producing high-quality grapes.

In recent years, Château Talbot has invested heavily in modernizing its winemaking facilities while still maintaining the traditional methods that have made it successful for centuries. The estate's commitment to quality and sustainability, combined with its rich history and exceptional wines, make it a must-visit for wine lovers visiting Bordeaux.

Beyond the Grand Vin, Château Talbot produces a second wine called "Connetable de Talbot" and a white wine called "Caillou Blanc de Talbot".
