Duty Charges

Below is a summary of the new duty charges per bottle as of February 2026. Please note that these vary depending on the ABV and are subject to change. Please get in touch if you require more information:

Transparent Billing and Rate Calculations

Annual Billing: Clients are invoiced annually based on the wines stored in the preceding year.
Case Equivalents: A case is defined as 9 litres of wine (typically twelve 750ml bottles), ensuring clarity in pricing.
Pro-Rata Charges: Storage fees are charged on a per-bottle basis, and wines stored for part of a month will be billed accordingly.

How to Use Our Bonded Storage

Purchase en primeur or under-bond wines from Hedonism Wines.
Automatically enjoy twelve months of free storage at our bonded storage when you open your storage account.
After twelve months, your storage will continue at the rates outlined above, with quarterly invoicing.
When you are ready to receive your wines, simply request delivery. Most orders are fulfilled within 3-4 working days.

Château Talbot is one of the 10 Quatrièmes Crus Classés [Fourth Growths] in the Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855. The vineyard area extends approximately 102 hectares, making it one of the largest in Saint-Julien. The soil is gravelly and well-drained, which is ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, the grape variety that dominates the blend for Château Talbot. Merlot and Petit Verdot are also planted in the vineyard. This release is the 1988 vintage of its Grand Vin, a rare bottle these days. Expect notes of red berries, plums, green pepper, dark chocolate and a good streak of acidity running through.

The 1988 Talbot is a vintage that I had not tasted for a long time. Now at 30-years old, it has a slightly paler colour compared to the 1988 Gruaud Larose with faint bricking on the rim. The bouquet is very attractive with bright soy-tinged red fruit, sandalwood, clove and a touch of antique bureau. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, soft in texture with soy-tinged (again) red fruit, finely judged acidity and a classic, traditional cedar-tinged finish that is maybe just a tad too bitter, though this might be offset accompanied by suitable cuisine. One for those that like traditional Saint Julien, although I would drink bottles in the near future. (Also, I would refrain from decanting as it became a little volatile with aeration). The vineyards at Château Talbot cover around 110 hectares and are planted with 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot. The soils are composed of deep gravel overlying clay subsoil, which gives the wines a distinct minerality and complexity. The vineyard is managed sustainably, with a focus on preserving the natural environment and producing high-quality grapes.

In recent years, Château Talbot has invested heavily in modernizing its winemaking facilities while still maintaining the traditional methods that have made it successful for centuries. The estate's commitment to quality and sustainability, combined with its rich history and exceptional wines, make it a must-visit for wine lovers visiting Bordeaux.

Beyond the Grand Vin, Château Talbot produces a second wine called "Connetable de Talbot" and a white wine called "Caillou Blanc de Talbot".
