Château Talbot is a Fourth Growth wine estate situated within the Saint-Julien appellation. For the past century, it has remained under the ownership of the Cordier family, a prestigious name in the world of Bordeaux wine. The Grand Vin, primarily crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, is recognized for its youthful spicy aromatics and velvety texture, while also earning accolades for its consistent capacity to gracefully mature over time. This is a rare gem from the 1964 vintage, when both Bordeaux and Burgundy delivered fantastic wines.

The 1966 Talbot has a bucolic and perhaps feral bouquet with menthol and humidor aromas billowing from the glass. It is not intense but it is attractive. The palate has a commendable fleshiness, uncommon in this vintage with citrus-infused cherries and blackberry, hints of Provençal herbs and a finely tuned, quite tensile finish. This is a solid, thoroughly enjoyable Talbot to drink now. Tasted blind at a private lunch in London. Neal Martin1st October 2019

The vineyards at Château Talbot cover around 110 hectares and are planted with 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot. The soils are composed of deep gravel overlying clay subsoil, which gives the wines a distinct minerality and complexity. The vineyard is managed sustainably, with a focus on preserving the natural environment and producing high-quality grapes.

In recent years, Château Talbot has invested heavily in modernizing its winemaking facilities while still maintaining the traditional methods that have made it successful for centuries. The estate's commitment to quality and sustainability, combined with its rich history and exceptional wines, make it a must-visit for wine lovers visiting Bordeaux.

Beyond the Grand Vin, Château Talbot produces a second wine called "Connetable de Talbot" and a white wine called "Caillou Blanc de Talbot".
