Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2006 is an opulent and expansive Rosé with layers of wild strawberry and spice presented in a massive Methuselah bottle. The size of the vessel ensures a very slow and graceful maturation which preserves the freshness of the fruit while allowing the complex autolytic notes to develop. It is a technical masterpiece of blending that balances richness with a fine bead and a persistent mineral acidity. This 600cl format is designed for grand occasions and long-term cellaring.

The 2006 Comtes de Champagne Rosé has come together beautifully since I last tasted it. Time has released its inner concentration and layers. Exotic spice, blood orange, pomegranate, cedar and sweet spice tobacco lend notable flair, with the the Pinot very much front and center. Antonio Galloni8th April 2025

A Family Business

The Taittinger family have been running their eponymous Champagne house since 1932. One of the last family-owned houses in Reims, the brand has a reputation for quality-driven vintage and non-vintage Champagnes. Sourcing fruit from over 35 vineyards sites, the team produce a range of styles including an elegant non-vintage, two sweeter Champagnes in the form of Nocturne and Demi-Sec and a Grand Cru-based non-vintage.

The Taittinger family's Prestige Cuvée is Comtes de Champagne, first produced in 1952. This Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) is produced using fruit from five different Grand Cru sites across the Côte de Blancs. An aromatic, full-bodied Champagne with notes of citrus oil and green apple in youth, Comtes de Champagne ages superbly, with time in the bottle revealing notes of toasted hazelnut and a creamy richness.
