Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Magnum 2011 is a prestige blanc de blancs, crafted exclusively from Grand Cru Chardonnay. Produced only in select vintages, it was released in September 2021 after nearly nine years of lees ageing, contributing to its depth and complexity. The aromatic profile unfolds with delicate notes of vine peach, cherimoya, mandarin peel, and almond pastry, leading to a palate that is elegant and mineral-driven, with a fine, creamy mousse and a lingering, toasty finish. Despite the challenges of the 2011 growing season, this vintage remains a testament to Taittinger’s commitment to quality and terroir expression.

We served this Champagne during the Connoisseur Week in 2022 also, and the last year has seen it deepen and gather complexity. If you have been holding on to it, I strongly suggest taking another look, as everything has pulled together, with the quince and brioche character more pronounced, along with smoked almonds and bright citrus. A Blanc de Blancs made entirely from Chardonnay grapes sourced from entirely from Grand Cru vineyards in Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. 9 years on the lees, disgorged April 2021, 9 g/l dosage.Jane Anson27th June 2023

The 2011 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne has generated a certain amount of controversy in critical circles, with appraisals ranging from the condemnatory to the ecstatic, so I was curious to revisit a bottle with some more time on cork. Since I tasted it last year, the wine has tightened up a little, integrating its dosage and showing more of a structural backbone. Exhibiting aromas of crisp stone fruit, buttery pastry, freshly baked bread and hints of fresh hazelnut, it`s medium-bodied, pillowy and racy, with an impressively seamless palate and delicate but penetrating finish. It isn`t a powerhouse, but I continue to think that it`s a genuine success in a challenging year. - William Kelley

The 2011 Comtes de Champagne remains a challenging wine. Short, compact and lacking in complexity, the 2011 just doesn’t have that much to offer. On a more positive note, there’s good freshness and fewer of the vegetal notes I saw a few years ago. This is the best showing yet for the 2011.Antonio Galloni30th November 2022

From grand cru vineyards in Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. Aged for nine years in Taittinger`s particularly deep cellars. Dosage 9 g/l. Quite a deep greenish primrose yellow. Meaty, substantial, quite savoury evolution on the nose. Bone-dry finish but no shortage of rather captivating fruit before then. Very appetising with good steady bead and no aggressive froth. A very successful Comtes with a deep undertow. This may have been a challenging vintage but the Taittinger team seem to have risen well to the challenges. (JR)

A Family Business

The Taittinger family have been running their eponymous Champagne house since 1932. One of the last family-owned houses in Reims, the brand has a reputation for quality-driven vintage and non-vintage Champagnes. Sourcing fruit from over 35 vineyards sites, the team produce a range of styles including an elegant non-vintage, two sweeter Champagnes in the form of Nocturne and Demi-Sec and a Grand Cru-based non-vintage.

The Taittinger family's Prestige Cuvée is Comtes de Champagne, first produced in 1952. This Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) is produced using fruit from five different Grand Cru sites across the Côte de Blancs. An aromatic, full-bodied Champagne with notes of citrus oil and green apple in youth, Comtes de Champagne ages superbly, with time in the bottle revealing notes of toasted hazelnut and a creamy richness.
