The 2006 Comtes de Champagne showcases an expressive nose featuring pure white fruit, pear, apple, honeysuckle, white flowers, a touch of brioche, white pepper, and limestone. On the palate, it boasts excellent concentration, with finely layered fresh white fruit, precision, and a lean quality. The mousse is generously fine, accompanied by bright acidity and robust limestone mineral notes. The finish is marked by a clean and cool white fruit character, culminating with a touch of brioche.

The 2006 Comtes de Champagne is in a great spot. Baked apple tart, spice, chamomile, marzipan, slate and chalk confer tremendous vibrancy and power throughout. Bright saline notes play off the natural exuberance of the year. The 2006 was spectacular on release. It is all that today, too. Antonio Galloni8th April 2025

Disgorged April 2013 for this tasting. Very lively bead indeed. Very sumptuous nose seems eerily close to fine white Côte d`Or burgundy. Still tight and very glamorous. Really classy and explosive. Hugely promising. There is delicacy and charm here. (JR)

A Family Business

The Taittinger family have been running their eponymous Champagne house since 1932. One of the last family-owned houses in Reims, the brand has a reputation for quality-driven vintage and non-vintage Champagnes. Sourcing fruit from over 35 vineyards sites, the team produce a range of styles including an elegant non-vintage, two sweeter Champagnes in the form of Nocturne and Demi-Sec and a Grand Cru-based non-vintage.

The Taittinger family's Prestige Cuvée is Comtes de Champagne, first produced in 1952. This Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) is produced using fruit from five different Grand Cru sites across the Côte de Blancs. An aromatic, full-bodied Champagne with notes of citrus oil and green apple in youth, Comtes de Champagne ages superbly, with time in the bottle revealing notes of toasted hazelnut and a creamy richness.
