Château Suduiraut is a renowned producer of sweet wines in Bordeaux, located in the Sauternes appellation. The estate has a long history that dates back to the 17th century, and it is classified as a Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The 1967 vintage of Château Suduiraut is a remarkable example of aged Sauternes, known for its complex and developed flavours. Made primarily from Sémillon grapes affected by noble rot, with some Sauvignon Blanc grapes in the blend, the wine underwent a long and slow fermentation process, resulting in a rich and concentrated dessert wine. As an aged Sauternes, the 1967 Château Suduiraut is best enjoyed now, although it may still hold its quality for a few more years under proper storage conditions.

The 1967 Suduiraut, served blind at Pichon Baron, is the best vintage from an era when the Sauternes estate was inconsistent. It has a potent Barsac-scented bouquet with orange rind, mandarin and a light adhesive tincture that turns a little chlorine-like with aeration. It remains fresh and very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied, a little drier than you might expect given the vintage, yet retains freshness and bite. Lovely orange rind and Seville orange marmalade notes abound, focused with a vivacious and again, Barsac-like finish. Excellent. Neal Martin31st August 2022
