Staoisha is the peated distillate from Bunnahabhain Distillery, offering a powerful counterpoint to the distillery’s usual unpeated house style. Distilled on Islay’s rugged northeast coast, Staoisha is bold and coastal, with a deeply smoky profile that reflects the wilder character of the island. This cask was filled in July 2025 into a 500-litre second-fill sherry butt — a classic choice of maturation that allows the spirit’s smoky, maritime nature to take centre stage while gaining gentle layers of dried fruit, nuttiness and subtle spice from the cask’s previous seasoning.

Filled at 63.5% ABV with an Original Litres of Alcohol (OLA) of approximately 310, it promises a complex and balanced development over time. Expect powerful peat smoke, coastal salinity, and a refined sherry cask influence as it matures.

This offer includes three years of storage and insurance at Braeside Bond.

The Lighter Side of Islay

Often known as the "gateway malt" for those looking to explore the smoky malts of Islay, Bunnahabhain is more lightly peated than most other whiskies produced on the island. Situated on the north-eastern coast, the distillery name means "mouth of the river" in Gaelic.

Historically noted for a waxy, oily mouthfeel, low peat levels and a hint of sea spray, Bunnahabhain have since experimented with more heavily peated drams, in-keeping with the style of their island neighbours. The youngest age statement in the core range is 12 years old while limited edition cask finishes have won the distillery awards globally.
