Château Saint-Pierre 2001 is a notable red wine from the Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux, classified as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 classification. The blend typically consists of approximately 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, all of which reflect the region`s distinctive gravel soils. The 2001 vintage is characterised by its structure and balance, often presenting a profile of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, and earthy notes. Given its age, the tannins are integrated, contributing to a refined palate and a lingering finish. Château Saint-Pierre is well-regarded for its traditional winemaking practices, highlighting its commitment to quality.
89 Robert Parker
Ruggedly constructed, with a deep ruby/purple color, this big, rich St.-Julien offers notes of animal fur, black currants, spice box, licorice, and a notion of new oak in the background. Chewy, heady, and muscular, it is a well-made, substantial 2001 to consume between 2007-2015. If more finesse develops, it may merit an outstanding rating. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
87 Vinous
Medium red. Aromatic nose combines redcurrant, cedar and eucalyptus. Juicy and rather suave, with flavors of redcurrant, tobacco and oak. Nicely delineated if a bit lean. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that turned a bit dry with aeration.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2003
