St Joseph Rouge Pierre Gonon 2022 showcases a deep, vibrant ruby hue typical of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The wine is crafted primarily from old vines in Mauves and Tournon, where granite slopes provide a distinct mineral edge. Grapes are predominantly destemmed and fermented in traditional wooden vats, with careful extraction techniques employed to enhance the wine`s structure. Aeration during fermentation facilitates a dynamic interplay of fruit and earth. Aged for over a year in demi-muids, this vintage reflects the Gonon family`s commitment to traditional methods and meticulous vineyard practices, emphasising their longstanding reputation within the region.
96 Robert Parker
The 2022 Saint-Joseph from Pierre Gonon is a beauty. Despite a slightly introverted bouquet, it is bursting with aromas of cherries, black olive, violet, dark berries and blueberry. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and layered with a textural attack, it`s pure with a fleshy core of fruit framed by supple tannins and a refreshing perfumed mid-palate that culminates in an ethereal, long and delicately floral finish. Despite a dry vintage, this refined, precise wine is full of freshness. It will require patience (10 to 15 years). Kudos!
94 Vinous
The 2022 Saint-Joseph is medium-bodied, showcasing ripe red plum, orange rind, graphite, violet and a hint of licorice on the nose. Framed by ripe, polished tannins, the serious 2022 delivers ample energy and tension on the savory palate. This is best enjoyed after four years of cellaring.
