St Joseph Rouge Pierre Gonon 2010 is a mature red wine that reflects the distinct terroir of the Saint-Joseph appellation. Produced by the Gonon brothers, known for their meticulous vineyard practices and low-intervention winemaking, this vintage presents concentrated dark fruit aromas, particularly blackberries and plums. The palate reveals considerable depth, balanced by firm tannins and a notable acidity. The wine exhibits a structured profile, indicating potential for further development. Gonon winery, established in the early 1990s, focuses on expressing the unique characteristics of the Syrah grape, situating them among respected figures in the Northern Rhône Valley.

Still backwards and closed, yet with undeniable potential, the 2010 St Joseph is easily the deepest, richest wine in the retrospect, and needs to be forgotten for anther 2-3 years. Some coaxing yields black, black fruits, lots of minerality and a touch of spring flowers, and it possesses full-bodied richness, building, ripe tannin and a great finish.
95 Vinous
Savory and complex, the 2010 Saint-Joseph unfolds with pristine notes of black cherry compote, tobacco, licorice, pencil shaving, forest floor and a touch of pepper. A cigar box note adds another layer. Classic and round, the 2010 combines stellar intensity and vivid freshness on the medium-bodied palate, winding down with stunning length and total harmony. Lucky you if you own a bottle or two!Nicolas Greinacher1st January 2025
