E Guigal St Joseph Lieu Dit 2021 is a full-bodied red wine produced from Syrah grapes in the St Joseph appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for quality Côte-Rôtie. Guigal`s Saint-Joseph Lieu Dit Rouge is a testament to the winery`s commitment to quality. This vineyard played a pivotal role in persuading the Guigal family to invest their efforts in Saint-Joseph, contributing to the revitalisation of this esteemed appellation. Made exclusively from 100% Syrah, the wine captivates with its intricate layers of black fruits, floral notes, spices, and mineral nuances.

The 2021 Saint-Joseph Lieu-dit Saint-Joseph exhibits a red-fruited profile paired with spicy elements and notes of pencil shaving. Despite offering fairly modest flavor concentration, the 2021 is still neatly balanced and concludes with solid freshness on the bright finish. It won’t be as long-lived as either the 2020 or 2022.

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
